Drawing management — Have electronic files largely replaced routine use of microfilm and microfiche for engineering drawing storage and retrieval in modern organizations?

Concurrent engineering — Is efficient document management only a minor contributor to effective concurrent engineering, or is it in fact a critical enabler of parallel, cross-functional development?

Quality and records — Do quality standards in many industries permit properly controlled electronic documents to serve as permanent records (e.g., with audit trails, access control, and retention policies)?

Change control — After a drawing is formally released, is an Engineering Change Order (ECO) the standard mechanism used to document, review, approve, and implement drawing changes?

Documentation acceptability — Are electronically stored files categorically unacceptable as official documentation simply because they can be altered, or can proper controls make them acceptable?

Data management practices — Do individual companies frequently define their own data management standards and procedures (naming, revisioning, workflows) in addition to any industry norms?

Design governance: Do clearly defined design milestones and formal reviews (gate reviews) help ensure the development process remains on time and on track?

Configuration hygiene: In drawing management, is it important to establish a documented procedure and use systematic, consistent file naming so teams can find and identify the correct artifacts quickly and unambiguously?

Records retention: In the United States, are the legal requirements for how long engineering drawings must be retained fully standardized nationally, or do retention rules vary by industry, regulator, contract, and jurisdiction?
