25 years old Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia became the first Indian wrestler to fight at New York's iconic Madison Square Garden. He won the gold medal at the 65kg men's freestyle wrestling at the recent Asian Championships. He is the first Indian wrestler to be invited by the American governing body and will take part in the "Grapple at the Garden - Beat the Streets" fight night, which will be held on 6th May 2019. He also won eight gold medals from his previous nine international tournaments including last year's Commonwealth and Asian Games and presently holds World No.1 title in the 65-kg weight category.

Wolters who is supposed to run for a tenure of 2 to 3 years, was preceded by U.S. Army General, Curtis M. Scaparrotti. Wolters will also be the commander of U.S. forces in Europe across more than 19 million square miles. This area includes 104 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, the Arctic, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans, contains more than a quarter of the world's population, and generates more than a quarter of the world's gross domestic product (GDP). An American military officer always holds the NATO post of SACEUR (The Supreme Allied Commander Europe).

Indian Professional Golfer, Gaganjeet Bhullar has been awarded outstanding achievement as a player award at the 4th Edition of the annual India Golf Industry Association (GIA) award for the year 2019 at the Delhi Golf Club. The GIA awards were held along with 8th edition of South Asia's largest trade show, India Golf & Turf Expo (IGTE). 31-year-old Bhullar was awarded Arjuna Award in 2013. Bhullar became the youngest golfer on the Asian Tour to achieve nine career victories on tour. He had won Fiji international in 2018. Vijay Divech and former Arjuna Awardee Nonita Lal Qureshi received for their contribution to Golf coaching. Best New Nine-Hole Golf course' awards, was given to Eco Park, Kolkata.

India's most reputed cardiac surgeon and humanitarian, Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty was awarded 27th P.C. Chandra Puraskaar, the annual national award from the P.C. Chandra Group at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre. General Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Swami Suviranandaji Maharaj graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and gave away the award. He is also known as 'The Man with Divine Hands'. In 2003, he has won Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for medicine in 2013.

All India Football Federation (AIFF) recommended the names of Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Jeje Lalpekhlua for the prestigious Arjuna award 2019. The federation had been pushing the cases of the two footballers since 2017 but the Arjuna award committee continued to ignore their claims. In 2017, the AIFF recommended the two along with Bembem Devi but only the last name was conferred with it.

Shahid Afridi, former captain of the 'Pakistan national cricket team' has written his autobiography titled, 'Game Changer' which will unveil answers to the much-contemplated questions about him. The book has been published by Harper Collin's India. Afridi is popularly known as 'Boom Boom' and holds the world record for the fastest ODI (One Day International) century in 37 deliveries.He also holds the distinction of having hit the most number of sixes in the history of ODI cricket. The book has been co-authored by Afridi and journalist Wajahat S Khan.

The pair of Indian shooters Saurabh Chaudhary, 16-year-old, and Manu Bhaker, 17-year-old, clinched the 10m Air Pistol Mixed gold by beating Jiang Ranxin and Pang Wei of China 16-6 in the final at the International Shooting Sport Federation(ISSF) World Cup 2019 in Beijing, China. Prior to this, Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker had already won a gold in the same category in the New Delhi edition of the shooting World Cup in February 2019. The two teammates scored 482 points at the fifth spot. Anjum Moudgil and Divyansh Singh Panwar bagged a gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event by defeating China in the same tournament.

Veteran actor Pankaj Kapur will soon release his debut novel 'Dopehri', based on a play of the same name which he wrote and directed several years ago. "Dopehri" is the story of Amma Bi, an elderly widow who lives alone in her deserted family haveli in Lucknow. Her only companion is a dishevelled young servant who comes in twice a day. Every afternoon, Amma Bi hears the sound of footsteps on the stairs and her heart fills with panic. She peeks out the door only to find no one there. After considering a move to an old peoples' home, an anxious Amma Bi ends up taking in a lodger, a young woman named Sabiha, with a mysterious occupation and a winsome personality. When Sabiha's secret is revealed, Amma Bi discovers reserves of ingenuity, skill and love she never knew she had, and what started out as the tale of a haunted haveli turns into a heart-warming one about ageing, self-discovery and female bonding. Originally written in Hindi, "Dopehri" will be published simultaneously by HarperCollins in three editions: Hindi (in Devanagari script), Hindi (in Urdu script) and in English translation.

Indian shooting ace Apurvi Chandela attained the world number one position in the women's 10 metres air rifle event. Anjum Moudgil attained number two after consistent performances in recent years. The rifle ace from Jaipur is among the five Indian shooters to have already secured 2020 Olympics quotas for the country. Moudgil attained the world number two rank in 10 metres Air Rifle after her mixed team gold at the ISSF World Cup in Beijing. Manu Bhaker is the world number 10 in 25 metres pistol women category.

Ace Indian squash players Saurav Ghoshal and Joshna Chinappa won their respective Asian Individual Squash Championship titles in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Saurav Ghoshal defeated Leo Au Chun Ming of Hong Kong. Joshna Chinappa, on the other hand, retained her title as she beat top seed Annie Au of Hong Kong in the women's final event. Ghoshal who had become the first Indian male player to reach the top 10 of the world rankings is the finalist of the previous edition.
