The concentration of glucose in three different mixtures (glucose and alcohol) is 12,35 and 45 respectively. If 2 litres, 3 litres and 1 litre are taken from these three different vessels and mixed. What is the ratio of glucose and alcohol in the new mixture?

Correct Answer: 29 : 71

Explanation:

  • Mixture 1: 2 L with 12% glucose → 0.12 × 2 = 0.24 L glucose
  • Mixture 2: 3 L with 35% glucose → 0.35 × 3 = 1.05 L glucose
  • Mixture 3: 1 L with 45% glucose → 0.45 × 1 = 0.45 L glucose

Total glucose = 0.24 + 1.05 + 0.45 = 1.74 L

Total mixture = 2 + 3 + 1 = 6 L

Total alcohol = 6 − 1.74 = 4.26 L

Glucose : Alcohol = 1.74 : 4.26

Convert to whole numbers: (1.74 ÷ 0.06) : (4.26 ÷ 0.06) = 29 : 71

Answer: C. 29 : 71
