Cotton is facing competition form Sugarcane in the region of the black soil in Maharashtra. This is due to

• Declined yield of cotton in this region
• A General Change in the climate of this region
• Expansion of irrigation for which this region has become suitable for sugar-cane cultivation which is a profitable crop
• Increasing demand for Sugar and rising prices of sugar in the country
