Facebook will invest more than $1 billion to build its first data centre in Asia in Singapore. It is expected to be opened in 2022. The data centre will be built on an area of 170,000 square metre.

The attackers stole digital keys, called access tokens; the company uses to keep people logged in. More than 90 million users were forced to log out of their accounts on Friday for security reasons. The attackers stole Facebook "access tokens" which keep a person logged into their Facebook account over long periods of time so they don't have to keep signing in.

A new seller-funding programme named 'Amazon Wings' has been launched by Amazon India to help the small businesses and entrepreneurs to raise funds through the crowd funding platform. With this initiative, the small businesses and entrepreneurs of this platform can raise the funds for their business expansion, product development, and foster innovation or community development. Amazon India sellers can use the Ketto's platform for a subsidized fee which is around 50 percent to initiate fundraisers. Also, it launches a dedicated microsite to feature fundraisers initiated by sellers by which they can raise small ticket funds starting from as little as Rs 50,000 by means of crowd-funding through multiple individuals. An Artificial Intelligence (AI) robot hardwired to assist astronauts is launched to the International Space Station (ISS) atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Florida. The Crew Interactive Mobile Companion (CIMON), is an English speaking robot which will assist German astronaut Alexander Gerst to conduct experiments on ISS. CIMON is equipped with a microphone on the back, an infrared camera on the front, two batteries, and most importantly, an "offline" button. Once toggled to "offline," Gerst can be sure nothing he is saying is streamed down to the IBM server on Earth.

Researchers from MIT have designed a four-legged robot called Cheetah 3 that can run, jump onto desks, and climb obstacle-laden stairs without visual sensors. The 40kg robot has been developed with two new algorithms to provide the robot with 'blind locomotion' capabilities. Using those, the robot adjusts its movements and determines how much force to use to perform actions like stepping forward and pulling back and deals with unexpected forces like a kick. The robot can also recover from adverse conditions like being shoved or yanked by relying on "feel" instead of cameras.

Google launched a new search engine called 'Dataset Search', which works in multiple languages, to help scientists, data journalists and others find data required for their work. The new search engine will work like Google Scholar, the company's popular search engine for academic studies and reports.

According to a report called Breach Level Index by digital security firm Gemalto, data breach incidences in India were the second highest globally. It is due to compromises in the Aadhaar database. India is second to the US which represents more than 57 per cent of global breaches. 945 data breaches led to 4.5 billion data records being compromised worldwide in the first half of 2018. Out of this, India accounted for over 1 billion data during the first six months of 2018.
