  • Question
  • Ashu's mother was three times as old as Ashu 5 years ago. After 5 years she will be twice as old as Ashu. How old is Ashu today?

  • Options
  • A. 35 years
  • B. 10 years
  • C. 20 years
  • D. 15 years

  • Correct Answer
  • 15 years

    Explanation

Suppose the present ages of Ashu and her mother be P and Q years respectively.
    According to question,
    5 years ago , 3 × ( ages of Ashu - 5 ) = ages of Ashu's mother - 5
    ? 3 ( P - 5 ) = Q - 5
    ? 3P - 15 = Q - 5
    ? 3P - Q = 10 ... (i)
    Again, After 5 years , 2 × ( ages of Ashu + 5 ) = ages of Ashu's mother + 5
    ? 2(P + 5) = Q + 5
    ? 2P + 10 = Q + 5
    ? 2P ? Q = - 5.... (ii)
From equations (i) and (ii) , we get
    P = 15 years
Therefore, Ashu is 15 year old at present.
