Charlie Whiting, who was the FIA's director of Formula One died in Melbourne, Australia at the age of 66 owing to a pulmonary embolism. He was responsible for officiating the season-opening 2019 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne but died 3 days prior to it. His started his career with FIA in 1988 as a technical delegate, and went on to become an F1 director in 1997. He was born in Kent, United Kingdom.
