Google announced launch of a new artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to curb online spreading of contents involving child sexual abuse. The advanced AI technology uses deep neural networks for image processing that will enable identification of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online. The new tool will be made available for free to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other industry partners through a new Content Safety API service.

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) along with the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) and Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mumbai submitted a proposal to set up a Centre of Excellence for blockchain technology in Hyderabad to drive innovation. The technology will be used to secure land records in Telangana. After this, the C-DAC's Hyderabad unit will be the first one by the government for blockchain technology.

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated supercomputer 'Param Shivay' at IIT-BHU.The supercomputer of 833 teraflop capacity built at the cost of Rs 32.5 crore. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will roll out its new internet telephony service with brand name "Wings" from August 1. Those subscribing to "Wings", entailing one-time registration fee of Rs 1,099, will be able to make calls using any internet connection including broadband, WiFi, 3G or 4G data network of any operator, thus overcoming connectivity problems even in areas having patchy signals. Those subscribers can avail free domestic calls for one year, while the overseas calls will be priced as per international tariffs of BSNL landline.

Prasar Bharati has tied up with Google and its video sharing platform YouTube to telecast the 72nd Independence Day programme live online on 15th August 2018 to increase digital presence. Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati has stated that the live stream window will be seen on the homepage of Google itself so that people do not have to look for a separate link to go to the Youtube channel. In a first-of-its-kind digital drive, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech from Red Fort will be live streamed on both Google and YouTube. This year, Doordarshan anchors will introduce the programme from Red Fort instead of the studios. Doordarshan will also translate the PM's speech in over 20 regional languages. The Independence Day coverage will open with a song composed by Shankar Mahadevan.

India's fastest growing payments platform, PhonePe entering into a partnership with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to facilitate convenient, fast and secure payments through PhonePe on the IRCTC Rail connect Android app. The partnership will enable PhonePe's 100 million plus users to now pay directly from their bank accounts using UPI, credit and debit cards and also the PhonePe wallet for their travel bookings.

The European Union regulators have slapped Alphabet-owned Google with a record 4.34 billion euro ($5 billion) antitrust fine for abusing the dominance of its Android mobile operating system. According to the EU, Google's parent company has unfairly favoured its own services by forcing smartphone makers to pre-install Google apps Chrome and Search in a bundle with its app store, Play.

Satyajit Ray's epic masterpiece 'Pather Panchali' has been included in BBC's 100 best foreign language films list of the 21st century. Ray's film, which was released in 1955 and the first in his 'Apu' trilogy, is the only Indian film that find its spot in the BBC list and is placed at number 15. One97 Communications, the parent entity of Paytm launched "Paytm AI Cloud for India", an AI Cloud computing platform designed for developers, startups and enterprises. Paytm AI Cloud will process and store all the data of the consumer locally in servers located only in India while conforming to the highest security and privacy standards. For this cloud computing infrastructure, Paytm had partnered with Chinese technology giant Alibaba. The company has committed around Rs.250 crore in this business. The AI Cloud computing platform will offer a suite of business-centric apps for organisations that need solutions for cloud computing, ready-to-use services to automate their workflow, easy to integrate payments, messaging and customer engagement.

A new seller-funding programme named 'Amazon Wings' has been launched by Amazon India to help the small businesses and entrepreneurs to raise funds through the crowd funding platform. With this initiative, the small businesses and entrepreneurs of this platform can raise the funds for their business expansion, product development, and foster innovation or community development. Amazon India sellers can use the Ketto's platform for a subsidized fee which is around 50 percent to initiate fundraisers. Also, it launches a dedicated microsite to feature fundraisers initiated by sellers by which they can raise small ticket funds starting from as little as Rs 50,000 by means of crowd-funding through multiple individuals. Presently, Amazon India runs a programme called 'Launchpad' that helps product start-ups get a wider reach on the platform.
