At the Makran Cup boxing tournament which was held in Chabahar, Iran, Indian boxers collected a rich haul of 8 medals, including one gold, five silver and two bronze to finish their campaign on a high. Haryana's Deepak Singh won the only gold for India, beating JaafarNaseri in the (46-49kg) light fly category. An expert programme 'Operation Olympics' managed by Kerala's Sports Department and State Sports Council was commenced to train 123 athletes in 11 disciplines for 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The programme has the objective to provide international standard training to the athletes with the help of eminent trainers from both India and abroad. Under the Programme, Expert training will be provided in athletics, boxing, cycling, swimming, shooting, wrestling, badminton, fencing, rowing and archery. Training in wrestling, cycling, swimming, and boxing has been started at the various stadium in Thiruvananthapuram district whereas training for other streams will be at Kollam, Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Kannur districts.

Steel Authority of India's Hockey Academy wins 115th Aga Khan Gold Cup tournament by beating Army XI Danapur by 2-1 at Major Dhyan Chand hockey stadium in New Delhi. Jay Prakash Patel scored the match-winning goal for the SAIL Hockey Academy (SHA) in the final match of Aga Khan Gold Cup which is one of the oldest hockey tournament in the country. The SHA team defeated Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy by 4-2 in the semifinals. SAIL Hockey Academy is run by SAIL's Rourkela Steel Plant.

Kudo International Federation India (KIFI) has been provisionally recognised as National Sport Federation by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The recognition shall be granted if it complies with the provisions of National Sports Development Code of India, 2011 and displays information on the website according to the ministerial guidelines. The recognition would provide a major chance to KIFI Association for promoting and developing Kudo in India.

India emerged as winners in the team event of First Mallakhamb World Championship was held in Shivaji Park in central Mumbai in which India became the winner. This sport involves athletes performing various yogic and gymnastic poses while hanging from a rope or on a pole. 15 countries participated in the event- Spain, Germany, Czech Republic,Italy, USA, Iran, Norway, England, France, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam, Bahrain, and India.
