The 23rd edition of Asian Athletics Championship was held from 21 to 24 April 2019 at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar.A 30- year old Gomathi Marimuthu has won India's first gold medal of the Asian Athletics Championship 2019, in 800m race. She clocked at 2:02.70s, a personal best timing. Her previous best is 2:03.21s in Federation Cup held in Patiala. Wang Chunyu of China and Margarita Mukasheva of Kazakhstan won silver and bronze respectively.

Qatar defeated four-time champions Japan 3-1 in the final to win their first ever Asian Cup. Qatar forward Almoez Ali broke the record of most goals in a single Asian Cup after netting his ninth goal with an overhead kick, breaking Ali Daei's 1996 record. This was the first time that Japan lost in an Asian Cup final.

A music and poetry festival titled 'Jashn-e-Ittihaad' was held at the Jamia Milia Islamia central university in New Delhi to spread awareness about unity amongst the youth. The 13th Conference of Parties (COP) of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS 13) will be held at 15th to 22nd February 2020 at Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Recently, the Government of India (GoI) has announced that the Great Indian Bustard (GIB) will be its mascot for CMS COP-13. It is an environmental treaty under the aegis of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Representatives from 129 Parties and eminent conservationists and international NGOs working in the field of wildlife conservation are expected to attend the COP. India has been a Party to the CMS since 1983. The Conference of Parties (COP) is the decision-making organ of this convention. CMS, also known as the Bonn Convention, recognizes that States must be the protectors of migratory species that live within or pass through their national jurisdictions and aims to conserve terrestrial, marine, and avian migratory species throughout their ranges.

The Sports Authority of India Director General Neelam Kapur announced that The Sports Ministry has earmarked Rs 100 crore for the funding of athletes under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) for their preparations for 2020 Olympics. Launched in September 2014, TOPS, is a flagship programme of the sports ministry to provide financial assistance to potential Olympic medal winners besides giving the financial assistance to prepare for Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. On September 2018, a TOPS Secretariat which consists of a team of professionals with management and sporting expertise was established in a bid to fine tune India's preparations for the 2020 Olympics and build a sustainable sports ecosystem in the country. The TOPS team reviews every sport broadly along several parameters, including global performance trends from previous Olympics, World Championships and other major competitions specific to that sport to select a player.

Vidarbha became the only 3rd team in Indian Domestic Cricket history after Bombay and Karnataka to defend their Irani cup titles at Jamtha Stadium in Nagpur by defeating rest of India. Vidarbha chased a target of 280 runs on the day and young Karnewar was the Player of the match.

These additions means and both men and women will be up for receiving accolades in the same categories at the FIFA Best ceremony 2019 in Milan. The Best FIFA Football Awards 2019 ceremony will take place on 23 September 2019 at Teatro alla Scala, Milan, Italy.
