Hima Das was named in India's women 4x400m relay team for the World Relays to begin in Yokohama, Japan next month. Hima made the cut despite pulling out of the Asian Athletics Championships in Doha earlier this month due to lower back pain. She was dropped out midway through her 400-metres heats and was later ruled out of the Women's 4x400m relay and Mixed 4x400m relay races.

26 years old India's Table Tennis player Sathiyan Gnanasekaran became the first Indian to break into the world's top 25 of the latest International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Rankings. He was the only Indian to reach the round of 32 in the World Championships in Hungary. Sharath Kamal Achanta is the only other Indian beside him in the top 50 position who is now 46th place in the list.

The Central Works Public Department (CPWD) has constituted an expert committee to formulate a design policy for building construction and infrastructure development. The committee, under the chairmanship of CPWD's Additional Director General M K Sharma, is aimed at reviving building construction and infrastructure development at all levels in the CPWD which comes under the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry. The committee has been asked to submit its report to Director General Prabhakar Singh within 30 days. The CPWD is the largest construction agency of the central government. It constructs most of the government's buildings across the country, erects fences on the country's international borders, among others. The agency also carries out projects in foreign countries under friendship programmes with India.

Leg-spinner Poonam Yadav is the only female cricketer in the list recommended by BCCI. Poonam Yadav is ranked second in women's T20I rankings for bowlers. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also recommended 3 Indian cricketers - Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja for the Arjuna Award 2019. Bumrah is currently the world number one ODI bowler, while Jadeja is the world number three Test all-rounder.

Lewis Hamilton won Spanish Grand Prix. He celebrated the 76th win of his Formula 1 career, third victory of 2019 and fourth in Spain following victories in 2014, 2017 and 2018. Top spot of the world championship ranking with 112 points, ahead of Valtteri Bottas who is on 105 points.

Justice PR Ramachandra Menon has been sworn-in as the new Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court. Governor Anandiben Patel administered him the oath of office and secrecy at a function at Raj Bhawan. Earlier, Menon was a judge in the Kerala High Court. As per article 217 of constitution, the Chief Justice of a High Court is appointed by the President with the consultation of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Governor of the State. The other judges are appointed by the will of President, Governor and the Chief Justice of High Court.

Sharath Kamal, Ace table tennis player was titled Sportsperson of the Year Award 2019 at the annual awards and scholarships function organised by the Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists' Association (TNSJA) and the India Cements in Chennai. Stephen Fleming, CSK (Chennai Super Kings) coach, Mike Hussey, and CSK CEO K S Viswanathan were present in the function. Ten up-and-coming sportspersons were also given scholarships to the tune of Rs 3 lakh. TNSJA Lifetime Achievement awardees: Vijay Amritraj (Indian tennis player), V V Kumar (former India leg-spinner), R Gnanasekaran(Asian Games gold medallist (200m).

Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara has been named as the next President of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), becoming the first non-British President of the club. Sangakkara will take up the post on October 1 and will serve for a period of one year. In 2012, Sangakkara was awarded Honorary Life Membership of the Club.

Mali's president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita on May 5, 2019 named a new government under Prime Minister Boubou Cisse, after his predecessor Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga resigned last month amid widespread protests over an upsurge of deadly inter-communal violence. Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga and his entire cabinet resigned on April 18 following the massacre of around 160 members of the Fulani herding community on March 23 in the village of Ogossagou.

Shri Godavarthi Venkata Srinivas (IFS:199C) was appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Senegal. Presently, he is Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. He succeeds Shri Rajeev Kumar, who is the High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Mozambique.
