Google has partnered with bullion refiner MMTC-PAMP India to allow Google Pay users to buy and sell gold through the app. Through this partnership with India's only LBMA-accredited gold refinery, Google Pay users will be able to buy 99.99% 24-karat gold. This type of service is already offered by the likes of Paytm, Mobikwik, and PhonePe.

The new edition of Tirukkural will be released on October 5, 2018. Vedagiri Mudaliar, who taught Tamil in Madurai Tamil Sangam, set up a printing press exclusively for the purpose. In the 19th century, 1850 to be precise, Tamil scholars turned their attention to Kalathur as Vedagiri Mudaliar first printed the Tirukkural with commentaries. The revised version was released in 1853. Vedagiri Mudaliar's book was never printed again. Now, Sivalayam J. Mohan will release the new edition on October 5, exactly 165 years after it was first published.

International Midwives Day 2019 is celebrated on May 5th every year. The theme for this year's celebration was "Midwives: Defenders of Women's Rights". First International Day of the Midwife (IDM) was celebrated on 5th of May in the year 1991 using the theme "Towards safe birth for all by the year 2000". It is celebrated as a day to honor the midwives for their big contribution towards the health of the people across the nations. The main event was hosted by WHO Chief Nursing Officer and Taskforce on Nursing and Midwifery. The event was inaugurated by the WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The event also saw the launch of the original play "Born in the Ruins" which showcased the work of midwives and nurses in conflict and emergency setting anywhere in the world.

21 light years away on december 22, 2018 in the constellation Cassiopeia, a shimmering "super-Earth", five times the mass of Earth, dubbed as HD219134 b was discovered. Unlike the Earth, however, it most likely does not have a massive core of iron, but is rich in calcium and aluminium alongside magnesium and silicon. It shimmers red to blue like rubies and sapphires, because these gemstones are aluminium oxides which are common on the exoplanet. According to the researchers it is one of three candidates likely to belong to a new exotic class of exoplanets. The other two exoplanets studied were 55 Cancri e and WASP-47 e. The study was published in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society: Letters.
