He hailed from Pathanamthitta in Kerala. He had received two National and four Kerala State Film Awards. He had directed several experimental movies and documentaries. He had secured a diploma in direction and screenplay writing from FTII. Later, he became the director of FTII.

Prominent writer and academician, Maramraju Satyanarayana Rao passed away following a cardiac arrest. He was 84. He was born at Jayyaram village in Mahabubabad district in Telangana. He had worked as professor of political science and registrar of Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad. He has also authored several books.

Noted Tamil novelist and Sahitya Akademi Awardee Thoppil Mohamed Meeran passed away at Pettai in Tirunelveli district. He was 74. He authored several Tamil and Malayalam novels. His novel "Saaivu Naarkkali" (The Reclining Chair) won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1997. His other novels are "Oru Kadalora Graamaththin Kathai", "Thuraimugam", "Koonan Thoppu" and "Anju Vannam Theru." He has also written short stories like "Anbukku Muthumai Illai", "Thangarasu", "Ananthasayanam Colony", "Oru Kutti Theevin Varippadam", "Thoppil Mohamed Meeran Kathaigal" and "Oru Maamaramum Konjam Paravaigalum." He received eight awards in total which included the Sahitya Akademi Award and Tamil Nadu Kalai Ilakkiya Perumantram Award in 1992.

It was Allen who came up with the name Microsoft and had left the company in 1983. Allen ranked among the world's wealthiest individuals. As on date of his death, he ranked 44th on Forbes' 2018 list of billionaires with an estimated net worth of more than $20 billion.

Scotland all-rounder Con de Lange who had been diagnosed with a brain tumour has passed away at the age of 38. The South Africa-born de Lange played 21 internationals for Scotland, making his debut in a T20I against Ireland in June 2015.

Vice-Admiral M.P. Awati (retd.), who commanded a naval unit of the Eastern Fleet in the 1971 India-Pakistan war and whose actions led to the destruction of an enemy submarine, passed away. Vice-Admiral Awati was 91 years old. He was the commanding officer of INS Kamorta during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, and successfully faced enemy operations for almost a fortnight. He was awarded the Vir Chakra for his leadership and gallantry.
