Golden Rice (Oryza sativa) denotes a genetically modified rice capable of biosynthesizing and accumulating ?-carotene (provitamin A) in the endosperm, yielding a characteristic yellow color in the polished grains. Golden rice was developed to help cope with vitamin A deficiency, a problem that prevails in developing countries, affecting millions (Underwood, 2000; UNICEF, 2000). Vitamin A deficiency causes mortality and growth retardation in children and frequently impairs vision, leading to blindness. It also contributes indirectly to anemia by interfering with iron bioavailability.
The endosperm of Golden Rice (Oryza sativa) is yellow due to the accumulation of ?-carotene (provitamin A) and xanthophylls. The product of the two carotenoid biosynthesis transgenes used in Golden Rice results in Pale Yellow color.
Frontier Ethic is Spending Earth's assets at the cost of losing resource capital. A frontier ethic assumes that the earth has an unlimited supply of resources. It is the notion of disregarding the Earth for the benefit or gain of man.
If resources run out in one area, more can be found elsewhere or alternatively human ingenuity will find substitutes. This attitude sees humans as masters who manage the planet. It is completely Anthropocentric.
Anything that has Mass and takes up Space is called Matter.
Matter has some mass and occupies some space. Mass means the amount of matter in an object. Space occupied by an object is called its Volume.
The Study of Matter and and how matter changes is called Chemistry.
The first step in the refining of petroleum is distillation i.e, the fractionation of crude oil in atmospheric and vacuum distillation towers.
The first process petroleum refinery is known as distillation. In this process, crude oil is heated and fed into a distillation column. As the temperature of the crude oil in the distillation column rises, the crude oil separates itself into different components, called "fractions." The fractions are then captured separately. Each fraction corresponds to a different type of petroleum product, depending on the temperature at which that fraction boils off the crude oil mixture.
Pollination by wind is called Anemophily or Wind pollination. The process of the transfer of pollen from one individual plant to another, whereby the pollen is carried by air currents is called Anemophily.
Almost all gymnosperms (Non-flowering plants) are anemophilous, as are many plants in the order Poales, including grasses, sedges and rushes.
Plasmodium is a genus of unicellular eukaryotes that are obligate parasites of vertebrates and insects.
From the above given options, A, B, E, G are TRUE regarding Plasmodium.
The four most common soil erosion prevention methods are vegetation, geotextiles, mulch, and retaining walls.
By planting grass in areas of concentrated water flow, farmers can prevent much of the soil erosion that results from runoff, as the grass stabilizes the soil while still providing an outlet for drainage.
Preventing soil erosion is critical in protecting your property and exposed soil, whether from wind, weather, running water, and even the after-effects of the forest fire.
Fuse Wire is Made of an alloy of Tin and Lead.
If too high a current flows, the element rises to a higher temperature and either directly melts, or else melts a soldered joint within the fuse, opening the circuit. Thefuse element is made of an alloy of Tin and Lead to provide stable and predictable characteristics.
