By adhering to the green building norms for its residential colonies, the Delhi metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) has become the world's first completely green metro.
The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) awarded the Delhi metro the platinum rating for adhering to the green building norms for its 10 residential colonies.
Achal Kumar Jyoti (64), a retired 1975 IAS Officer batch of Gujarat Cadre, is the newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), who took over as the head of the Election Commission in New Delhi on today. He succeeded Dr Nasim Zaidi. Jyoti will continue as the Chief Election Commissioner till January 17, 2018. Prior to this appointment, he was Election Commissioner of India. A CEC or an EC can have a tenure of six years or hold office till the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
The Kerala government has implemented Green Protocol for making weddings more naturally in the state. The purpose of the initiative is to reduce the use of plastic in daily life. With the implementation of the protocol, use of plastic and other non-degradable articles including disposable glasses and plates and thermocol decorations will be discouraged at marriage functions. Inspections will be held at marriage halls, convention centres and hotels and other venues of the wedding ceremony in this regard and action would be taken if the protocol is violated. The state nodal agency for sanitation ?Suchitwa Mission? has already launched the initiative in Kannur, Ernakulam, Kollam and Alappuzha on a pilot basis. As per officials, the protocol would be implemented in the rest of the districts soon.
Mumbai has been ranked the world's second most densely populated city with 31,700 people per sq km, by the World Economic Forum (WEF) citing UN Habitat Data. Bangladesh's capital Dhaka topped the list with 44,500 people per sq km. Rajasthan's Kota has been ranked the world's seventh most densely populated city with 12,100 people per sq km.
After a span of 20 years, a Hindu politician, Darshan Lal, is set to take the role of a cabinet minister in Pakistan. The new Prime Minister Shahaid Khaqan Abbasi formulated his cabinet and has appointed 65-year old Lal to lead coordination between four Pakistan provinces.
Lal reportedly used to practice as a doctor in Mirpur Mathelo town in Ghotki district of Sindh province.
