Fifth Five Year Plan (1974?1978)
The Fifth Five-Year Plan laid stress on Employment, Poverty Alleviation (Garibi Hatao), and Justice. The plan also focused on self-reliance in agricultural production and defense.
In 1978 the newly elected Morarji Desai government rejected the plan.
Snehlata Shrivastava, appointed as the first woman Secretary General of the Lok Sabha. The appointment was made by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. Ms. Shrivastava will replace Anoop Mishra, who retired on November 30, 2017.
Ms. Shrivastava, a senior civil servant with 35 years of rich and varied administrative experience is a 1982 batch IAS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre.
Rama Devi holds the distinction of the being the first woman secretary general of the Rajya Sabha.
Apple briefly touched $800 billion market valuation, making it the world's first ever company to hit the milestone. At $800 billion, Apple's valuation was higher than the combined market cap of all the 30 Sensex companies, which stood at $784 billion. The world's most valuable company, Apple is followed by Google parent Alphabet, and Microsoft in market valuation.
India's nominee to International Court of Justice (ICJ) Dalveer Bhandari (70) was re-elected to fifth and the last seat of World court. Bhandari received 183-193 votes in United Nations General Assembly and secured all 15 votes in UN Security Council (UNSC). He was elected after Britain withdrew its candidate from the election. This is the first time since the ICJ was established in 1945 that there will be no British judge in ICJ. Bhandari is fourth Indian judge to be elected to ICJ after B.N. Rau, Nagendra Singh and RS Pathak.
